Style Cravings: Fanny Packs?!

Style Cravings: Fanny Packs

Some of you probably looked up at the title and thought I was completely out of my mind…well I promise you I’m not so please bare with me. I’ve been looking back at a few runway pictures and styles and something that I saw reoccurring a few times were stylish fanny packs. This caught me by surprise because I never thought a fanny pack would ever get into style. When I think of fanny pack I see a male tourist wearing sunglasses, sunscreen on his nose, a striped polo, cargo shorts that go higher on his waist than supposed to which is held by a belt, high socks, sunburned skin despite the fact he has sunscreen on his nose, and of course a fanny pack that holds his camera and perhaps even tickets to a certain place. I always told myself I would never be that person who wore a fanny pack everywhere, at least that was till I saw a few of these cute little packs that can not only compliment an outfit, but it can even enhance it!

What I love about these Fanny Packs is that they don’t look like your typical fanny packs. These have cute little belts that hold the pack up instead of some ugly strap. Also the pack isn’t some odd shape that is kept in the front, these look like adorable wallets that are often put off to the side or dangling. I really wouldn’t mind wearing one of these fanny packs because they can conveniently hold things, can make an outfit look cuter, and you don’t have to worry about losing it or getting it stolen if it’s around your waist at all times. I really do hope these kind of fanny packs start coming into style and I start seeing them in stores because I will definitely jump up on this trend. The only thing I don’t like about the fanny pack is the name itself, it just sounds so weird. How about Style pack? Waist purse? I may need to work on a better name to call them.

Strange Addictions: Disney Dudez

Disney-Dudez1

I decided that I was going to write about something a little different today! I have a fast and growing addiction to… Disney Dudez. You’re all probably thinking what’s that? The real question is who is that? Well my friends, I’m here to inform you that Disney Dudez is the best youtube video (at least in my opinion) made by a popular youtuber Todrick Hall.  Heck! The Disney Dudez videos are my favorite youtube videos of all time right now! When I tell you I’m obsessed, I mean that I seriously can’t stop listening to them! I have their songs on repeat at all times! Now I’m not one who has ever like boy bands, I really don’t like One Direction (sorry to all you Directioners). The only reason I love Disney Dudez so much is because I am a huge Disney fanatic and because they harmonize so stinking well! Plus the stories are kind of cute. So far they have created three videos to the Disney Dudez series and I really hope they decide to make many more because I can live off of them! The Disney Dudez are played by IM5 which is a real life boy band.

The First Disney Dudez video has the boys dressed up as the Disney Princesses: Ariel, Cinderella, Mulan, Belle, and Jasmine. The Disney Princesses are shown at first breaking up with the boys, all for different reasons. Then the boys are back to… well, boys! They are in this classroom talking about how it sucks that their girls broke up with them. Then all of a sudden Mickey Mouse who is the janitor walks in and starts telling the boys that the only way to get over their broken hearts is by starting a boy band. Then they all start singing Disney songs but they throw in a twist! They sing famous Disney princess songs but along to other boy band tunes. For example: Aladin sang “A Whole New World” along to “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction. In the end, the girls are impressed by their amazing voices and slick moves and decide to get back together with them. I first found this video by going on the humor section of Pinterest. Once again I thank Pinterest for the miracle of amazing entertainment!

tumblr_n7vwfxNuc91rpg02lo1_500

The second Disney Dudez is about how Prince Charming has left Disney Dudez and the boys have to find another member for the group. They have a casting call and we see characters such as Tarzan, Sebastian, Pinocchio, and Daffy Duck. When the boys are about to give up, here walks in Elsa. When I first saw this all I could think was “what the heck is Elsa doing in a boy band casting?!” Elsa starts singing “Let it go” for her/his audition. When Elsa first sings it’s horrific and ear shattering. Then the boys start singing about how Elsa needs some work. During this song we see Elsa transform into Prince Philip and busts out some very sick moves! Then they sing “Do you want to build a boy band?” which went along to the tune of “Do you want to build a boy band?” Prince Philip is then taken in into Disney Dudez and they end the video with all the boys harmonizing to Let it go which made me smile so hard! This was my favorite Disney Dudez video because I liked the harmonization of all the boys, I love the Frozen songs,it made me laugh, and because they brought in Elsa. Elsa is my favorite princess/queen because I feel like I can relate to her, plus she has an amazing dress!

The third Disney Dudez I will admit was not as good as the first two. In the third Disney Dudez the Disney princess are back to breaking up with the boys, but this time because they let fame get to their heads. Mickey then walks in and explains to them how they have let fame get to their heads and help the boys come up with ideas to getting their girls back. They then decided that they were going to perform in their concert with their hearts out their for the girls. They sing more Disney Songs but with a modern and hipper twist to it. Long story short, the boys impress the girls enough with their vocal chords that the girls come crawling back.

Now I’ve decided that I was going to let you in on which one of the Disney Dudez is my favorite. I mean whenever there is a band you know that we each are all bound to love one more than the others. This one that stood out to me the most was the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. To me he is one of the cutest boys there and his voice is amazing! Plus in all of his videos he is super funny and he seems to have a lot of personality. His real name is Dana Vaughns. He is the youngest member of IM5 and is only 16. I have to say that the first time I saw him play Belle he made me laugh really hard and that when I fell in love with that Disney Dude.

The reason I decided to write this post is because these videos bring some joy to my life and when I feel down I can watch them and then immediately have a smile on my face. I wanted to share them with you guys hoping you all would feel the same way about them as I do. I also want you guys to leave some comments on what your opinions are of the videos if you’ve watched them and who is your favorite character/band member and why?

Style Cravings: Body Chains

Body Chains

The first time I heard of body chains I thought of the chains that magicians wrap themselves up in and then try to escape out of, not a cute piece of jewelry. The first few celebrities who hit this trend hard where Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. I don’t know about you but I don’t really trust Miley Cyrus’s clothing style, I mean she was well know for JUST wearing a wrecking ball. Rihanna I don’t really trust either, she doesn’t tend to cover up her body very much. At least going off some past and more recent showings of her body, most recent would be the see through mesh dress at the CFDA Awards. I decided to give some fresh faces. The one on the far right in the black bikini is Vanessa Hudgens, which is rocking the body chain under the bikini top. The one in the middle is Acacia Brinley Clark with a simple body chain underneath the crop top. The one on the left is model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wearing a gray suit and a very simple and subtle body chain where it’s barely noticeable, but still very chic.

Next I wanted to show you guys how the body chains looked on different pieces of clothing. The one on the right is a body chain that looks more like shoulder pads made out of chains but is still super pretty. What I love about this outfit is how the body chain balances out with the skirt on the bottom, also I love the look of the gold body chain on the black crop top. The outfit in the middle is a very simple silver body chain under a white crop top. Note: Even though two of the girls are wearing crop tops, they styled it right to where they don’t look trashy, but quite elegant. The girl on the left side is wearing a simple grey dress with a very simple body chain. The dress was pretty boring by itself so by adding the body chain she gave it a better look.

c600x438

Body chains mostly come in gold and silver like any ordinary neck chain. There have been two colors so far that I’ve seen where the neck chains color contrast looks amazing, which are black and white. White  is a very pretty and simple color and it goes with every color. A very dark silver chain is preferred for a better contrast. You can style all sort of looks with the body chains as well. In the top left corner you have a boho body chain look. On the bottom left is a casual body chain look. On the right bottom corner you have an elegant body chain look. I wanted to talk a bit more on how a body chain such as the one on the bottom right can be used at weddings. Some brides are faced with the mother of the brides and what they would like the daughter to wear. Some moms want the daughters to wear something a bit more classic instead of hip or trendy. So what the daughter could do is wear a simpler dress with one of these very elegant body chains over it for a later in the night look. I think that would be a very cute wedding look. You can also add a body chain to a simple article of clothing such as the tank top or crop top above and and make it a very chic look. I added to top right picture because it was seen on the runways and I thought it would be cool to add it. Just imagine how much that body chain would probably cost.

c600x433

The other color that looks really well with a body chain on top is black. On the top row I put in a one piece with a body chain on top because you don’t only have to wear them with bikinis. When I was looking up different body chains a majority of the styles were bikinis with the body chain on top. Would I wear a body chain with a bathing suit? No, not really. I mean if it get’s hot the chain can start to burn you and if the chain isn’t real gold or silver and I got into the water it will rust. Now I love swimming and I’m a hardcore swimmer, I like to jump off ledges into the water and do tons of flips and dives. If I were to do all of those things in a body chain then it would be sure to come off or break. Most of the body chains I found that go on top of black outfits are not very simple and accentuate the curves better. I prefer to see a body chain on top of black rather than white because I feel like they stand out a lot better and looks a lot more stylish. Plus, you don’t have to be stick skinny to wear a body chain, now some may not look as right but a lot of girls can wear body chains. They all have different shapes that fit each body type.

For a very simple body chain on ebay is no more than ten dollars which is really good for a teen’s budget. The body chains come in all sort of different shapes and sizes which I like because it adds all sort of different styles. Most of the body chains come in either silver or gold but I have seen a few that come with colored beads to add some more color. Would I wear a body chain myself? Oh yeah, definitely! I’m a really skinny person so I don’t really have curves, some of these body chains might be able to give the illusion that I do. Plus I really like all the different styles I can create with a body chain, but I still wouldn’t wear it with any sort of bathing suit. Is this a style that you guys are craving?

Style Cravings: Skinnies and Midi Rings

Midi rings

I was looking at Pinterest the other day and found a picture of a skinny ring with a nice and clean design, a very unpretentious ring and I started wondering if I could find more of them. As I started diving into the world of the skinnies I was more and more convinced that these thin circles would end up been a trend as it has the power of making the hand look super feminine. I was not surprised to discover that celebrities such as Rihanna, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kristen Stewart have already been sporting them.

Midi rings are rings for your fingers just like any other ring. The difference about midi rings is that they are thinner, you  can layer them with other rings, and they don’t go all the way down your finger. I think these rings are super cute and stylish!  I prefer the midi rings to be stacked instead of just one because it adds variety and makes the hand look complete.

midi rings2

Midi rings come in all sort of shapes, sizes, and colors.  I like looking through the different midi rings and looking at all the different designs they have. I’m not much of a ring person because I can never seem to find the right size for my fingers. It kind of stinks that it’s difficult to find rings for my finger because I just really love the style and all I can do when I see these rings is imagine all the countless outfits I can create with them. It won’t be very hard trying to create an outfit since most of the rings come in either silver or gold so they can match many outfits.

midi rings 3

Most of the styles I included in the pictures are from Etsy however there are multiple websites for you guys to go and order some of these for yourselves. The picture with the guitar at the top shows Willow and Bloch skinny that you can order from their site as well. The options are unlimited! Even though the skinnies and midi rings alone are super cute, a little tip would be to make sure that your finger nails are in good shape and maybe even painted to go along with the cute ring look. I mean think about it, if your nails are not up to par, then it will distract people’s eyes from looking at the nails instead of the rings. Midi rings can change up a style and add some flare to a boring outfit.

Cape Walk

Yesterday I wrote about the trends I noticed on fashion week fall/winter 2014. I want you guys to be aware of the trends that are coming this next fall and winter, plus starting now allows some of you to stock up on clothing that you may need for those trends. It’s better to get them while they’re not on trend. Yesterday I talked about the top 5 repeated colors, patterns, and fabrics. I also decided to talk a bit about how I noticed that many designers used cropped tops in their collections.

Today I wanted to take the time to talk about capes because I noticed them a lot on the runways. I’m not talking about capes you might find on super heroes, but stylish ones that vary in all shapes and sizes. There were some capes that I looked at and thought of the show Reign. The women in that show are often found wearing capes, and some of the ones on the models looked like the ones you might find on the show. There were all sorts of lengths, there were some that touched the ground and there were others that barely passed the shoulders. All sorts of fabrics were used to create all these different capes. Some of the capes can be worn with a more casual outfit, others can be used for more formal events. How cool would it be to walk into a party with a nice dress and a cape that flows right behind you? Maybe people will start seeing capes as more of a way to style clothing instead of only being used for costumes. A girl with a teen fashion blog can only wish. 🙂

Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 Trends

Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 Color Trends

Fashion Week recently ended, so as a teen fashion blogger I feel I have to share the trends that came about among the designers. I looked for many things that might have been popular among all the collections shown. Today I’m going to talk about the three main categories that stood out to me. These categories are colors, patterns, and the main fabrics that they used.

This year’s fall colors are black, gray, white, red, and navy blue. The main color that was used among the designers was black. I made sure to include one example of each color at the top. I also wrote down the designers that created that certain outfit so that if you wanted to, you could go ahead and take a look at what else they made. I loved these colors and I believe that these outfits in those colors are just amazing.

Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 Pattern Trends

As for patterns, this Fashion Week I noticed a lot of plaid, among the collections. Tommy Hilfiger to me honestly did the best with plaid. I’m not usually into wearing sporty clothing, but I could make an exception for his line. All of his clothes were to die for. I also noticed a few different floral patterns, I thought that was pretty interesting for a fall collection. There were many different collections that had polka dots or stripes in them. Leopard print was pretty big among the clothing as well, I loved this dress by Badgley Mischka that’s at the top. Between the slit in the front and the leopard pattern, it was a fun dress yet elegant at the same time.

Fashion Week fall/Winter 2014 Fabric Trends

As for the fabrics, I’m really glad I have a good amount of faux leather clothing in my closet because I’m going to need it for the fall. It felt like there was leather in every show, it was a leather invasion! Fur was really big as well, there were all sorts of colors and prints on the catwalk which was really cool to see. I felt like Betsy Johnson did the best with the colored fur, the colors were so weird yet cool at the same time. Fur accessories were very big too, I can’t tell you all the times that I saw a model carrying around a fur purse. Shiny fabrics and metallic fabrics were really popular as well among the designers. Sheer was really big as well, I saw multiple dresses, skirts, and shirts that had sheer and they looked lovely. I’m honestly a fan of the sheer fabric, I think that as long as you have a tank top under it can add a cool look. Plus a lot of sheer clothing flows well and I like that.

Even though this gets a little out of the categories, I wanted to make sure that I mentioned that I saw a lot of the models wearing crop tops. They were styling them in all sorts of cool ways. There were models that wore crop tops under a nice sheer shirt, some wore them over shirts, under blazers, under shirts that have a lot of cut outs in them, and much more ways. I found it interesting to see how the designers styled the crop tops in weird ways that I have not seen before. I know that I’m not very comfortable with crop tops cause I’m not big on showing skin, yet I am open to try the different ways to use one.

Models: On Your Mark, Get Dressed, Fashion Week 2014!

Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014
Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 by teen fashion blog featuring a skyline wallpaper

The Mercedes-Benz Fall/Winter Fashion Week officially started today and will extend for 7 more days. With the anticipation everybody has their eyes on New York and what is happening there. Among the biggest news Diane von Furstenberg is celebrating the 40th anniversary of her iconic invention, the all so flattering wrap dress. Everybody can wear a wrap dress, right? Rachel Zoe cancelled her show at the last-minute due to her newborn not being able to fly. The Huftington Post published the article “Rachel Zoe Will Be Changing Diapers during New York Fashion Week“, hurtful! The worst thing is that I believe it was a woman who wrote the article, although Jamie could be a boy’s name as well. In any case, so much for us girls lifting each other up!

The shows have extended now to Brooklyn and of course that added a twist to the invitees. I decided to be politically correct and call it twist and not drama because let’s face it, at least they get to attend. And it is not like the company that runs Fashion Week is not providing them with a shuttle service. So what if they have to travel all over the place, I would slither all over the streets of New York to be able to attend. Some people are just ungrateful of their opportunities, enough of my rant!

At the end of the day, what they show is not really going to dictate what I would wear as I’m not really into trends, but it is always exciting to see the shows as in my opinion many are real works of art. I always like to read about the designers’ source of inspiration. For example Raoul was inspired by the Wiener Werkstatte movement and John Chamberlain’s sculptures, Nicole Miller by female warriors, Christian Siriano by the work of the photographer Fernand Fonssagrives, and Tadashi Shoji by moorish palaces to name only a few.

From the shows that I was able to watch today I have to give it hand down to Tadashi Shoji’s collection. Elegant, ethereal, romantic, classy, feminine, eternal, laser cutouts, velvet, sparkle, flowy dresses, stunning reds, and out of this world capes. I’m especially lusting for the red cape below. You all know I’m the number of fan of the show Reign. You can’t tell me that cape is not fitted for a queen!

Tadashi Shoji Fashion Week F/W 2014

I like to imagine how a couple of seasons or years down the road some trace of what they presented in their show it’s going to reach us, the peasants of the fashion world, the ones that can’t afford their clothes and that have to wait for somebody to copy it with way cheaper materials and labor for us to be able to wear. I like to imagine how years later we are all going to be able to understand their vision, to be able to “recognize” their art, their fashion-forward legacy and finally integrate to our closets.

Thank you mom for helping me with the research!
