New Year, Same Me

On January 1st my family and I met with our extended family for a traditional Southern New Year dinner. We don’t get out very often (although we go out shopping a lot now that I think about it), so when we go to a family reunion my parents, sister, and I like to dress up a bit. The skirt was a Christmas gift so I knew that I was going to create an outfit around it. Since it was New Year’s day, I felt like creating a modern outfit to symbolize the year ahead. Even though the blouse has puffy sleeves, the cut of the shirt and the zipper in the back makes it look modern. Once the blouse was tucked into the skirt it looked really good but there was definitely something missing, there was too much black and it didn’t stand out enough for me. To cut all the black up, I added the yellow belt for that pop of color that I was missing. I feel it completed the outfit. I wore black tights because it was really cold and like any other protective mother would do, she asked me to put them on so I wouldn’t get sick. I wore the black boots because I thought their height would go well with the skirt. I included a picture of my sister as well since I’m her personal stylist. Oh, wait! I don’t get paid for that. Well, that is another story. I had a lot of fun playing with my baby cousins and hanging out with my family members. We had a traditional New Year Southern meal to include black-eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread of course. My dad told me that in the South people cook these dishes on New Year’s day because they believe they bring good luck and money. I thought it was a cute tradition. Some people like to have New Year’s resolutions, I don’t because I have tried it in the past but it never worked for me. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? Care to share?
